Jan. 9

No real changes today. They found signs of an infection (bacterial this time) and have him on some antibiotics to kick it before it becomes problematic. He is still responsive and moves around quite a bit. He is able to recognize people and respond with nods and shakes of his head. He has lost weight (naturally) that is visible now that they've gotten the fluid out and taken care of the puffiness. They are going to continue the weaning process with the meds, and build up the amount of time he breathes on his own, as well as working to increase the therapy. This is a very slow process, as he is still very sick and weak. Nonetheless, it is a wonderful thing to have him open his eyes and know you, and be on the road to recovery.

  1. We are thanking God that Zach is doing better. We realize he is not out of the woods yet. But we pray he will be improving day by day. Hope they can kick that bacterial bug, too. Love, prayers and hugs sent your way. Karen Sinz

Thanks, Laura, for the daily updates. When I'm too busy to call at the right time, it helps to have a glimpse of what's happening with Zack. If you're printing comments and reading them to him, please let him know that Nessa, Tori, and Sean have all been keeping track of him, daily. Sean and Tori have asked me for daily updates, and Nessa keeps in touch via the blog. Love you all lots and lots! -- The Hixes

  4. I feel a little silly asking this after all this time, but what is a PEEP -- besides a baby chick? We've been praising God for Zack's continued progress and continue to pray Psalm 91 over him. Thank you for the daily updates!

    Love,
